Well it’s nothing like last year on this Tuesday’s Election Day. Instead of voting for the next President of the United States, Americans are voting for city council members, mayors and governors. Major mayoral races include John Connolly and Marty Walsh from Boston, and Bill de Blasio and Joseph Lhota, from New York City. Both cities have held mayors Thomas Menino and Michael Bloomberg, respectively, for more than a decade – and in Menino’s case, two decades!

He may be called an amateur photographer, but Greg Parker, from the United Kingdom, has dedicated his life to astronomy and astrophotography. In his backyard, this Professor of Photonics at the University of Southampton, built his own observatories and telescopes that have captured beautiful images of deep space.
An amateur photographer took these amazing shots of the clear night sky on a camera attached to telescopes from his back garden. The heart and soul nebula can be clearly seen in one photo glowing red in the dark sky, lit up by the surrounding stars. In other photos, the orion and scorpion nebula can also be seen amongst the stars otherwise invisible to the naked eye. Greg Parker, from Brockenhurst, Hants, installed two 3,000 pound observatories in his garden and attached cameras to the telescopes inside them. Weird, wacky and odd? Yes indeed! Apparently these orange Julia Butterflies, and yellow Sulphur Butterflies, need abundant amounts of sodium to survive. So where better to get your nutrients? Turtle tears of course! Much like human tears and sweat, these turtles provide salt where the distance is too far from other sources, like an ocean.
Just trying to capture a great photo at Toronto’s Royal Horse Show, this photographer was in the wrong spot at the wrong time. The poor guy who is probably used to being on the other side of the camera, was caught in this perfectly captured moment. Though it’s a fantastic photo, we definitely feel sorry for what happened shortly afterward…ouch!

These playful penguins are not fazed by the sub-zero temperatures as they dive into freezing water from a giant iceberg. The huge colony of waddling animals slowly make their way to the edge of the huge iceberg before jumping into the water. Gentoo, adelie and chinstrap penguins all dive into the water as they enjoy an afternoon swim in the Antarctic. And a photographer has braved the adverse weather conditions to capture the unique moment from a different perspective. Justin travelled to the Petermann Island in the Antarctic Peninsula to observe the penguins fascinating behaviour. Solent News / Splash News/Newscom.
